The Down syndrome effects are unexpected
Down syndrome effects on you
Having a baby with Down syndrome
will change you as a person. It will make you a happier human being, more compassionate, with a much higher capacity to love. You will become more loving and accepting of those with differences. You will become more assertive and more protective.
You will belong to a very exclusive club—a club you may not want to be a part of right now, but you will cherish your membership before long. You will make new and life-long friends. You will even shudder to think of what might have been missed without your angel in your life!
How will this affect my family?
Your family will either support you or they won’t. Many times a non-supportive family member will be your child's most ferocious defender and supporter once they fall in love with your angel. Sometimes, all it takes is information. They want to know how life will be with this new addition.
Down syndrome effects on society
It is so important to get our children out in the community so the public can see how normal our precious ones really are. Having Down syndrome is simply a natural variation of normal. Parents are working hard to change a negative perception and are fighting to have their children included as their abilities allow—and it’s working!
People with Down syndrome have been around as long as man has. There are many representations of people with Down syndrome in art.
The effect of Down syndrome on a person with DS
Many people with Down syndrome say they have a good life and are happy. They find satisfaction in their daily routine, whether it be a job, their studies, volunteer work, or simply doing what they do to the best of their abilities.
They say that having Down syndrome doesn’t hold them back from doing what they want to do. Perhaps the words of Jonah Caruso (who happens to have DS) says it best of all—“I love my life!”
